The first Chinese doctor who used acupuncture lived in a cave

over 5,000 years ago. Without needles their tools of choice were pointy stones

and maps of where to place them. Both have been found. The use of needles to alleviate pain began about 200 BCE.

Three forms of proofs make me jittery: tradition, authority and revelation.

Quacks are masters of all three but so are medical school professors. Tread carefully says I when people are in pain. They will try anything and pay dearly for a sliver of hope.

Since Nixon’s presidency acupressure and acupuncture have gained a foothold among patients in the U.S. The proof is as light as a feather yet they flourish

because hope knows no bounds when driven by pain. The Placebo Effect and

a desire to not waste money paid leads to seemingly miraculous cures.

Two Acupressure Samples

If it is non-invasive and has no side effects – it probably will not kill you.

It is free and you can decide whether to continue the experiment.

Feedback from 750 students who complained of annoying headaches including migraines volunteered to be their own guinea pigs. 82% expressed satisfaction.

One

Search with both hands and find your right eyebrow. The acupressure point is

above your right eyebrow within 1.5 inches. Is it dead-center, left-of-center or

right-of-center? Search. It varies with your sensory-motor system. Acupuncturists call the hot-spot a meridian line. It is said to release endorphins and inhibit pain.

Your job is to stimulate above your right eyebrow for 60 seconds in one of two ways:

kneed the 1.5 inch area by massaging the flesh between your thumb and index finger.

A second strategy is to use the nails of your thumb and middle finger to pinch

the 1.5 inch area for about one-minute.

Two

Another acupressure strategy involves the V area between your thumb and forefinger of both hands. The Hot-Spot is ¾ of an inch (one phalange wide)

from your V area web.

Example: Place your right thumbnail into the flesh of the upper (face) of your left hand and your index finger nail onto the flesh of the back of your left hand. Spread the V web wide and pulsate using your nails as points for 60 seconds on each hand.

Does it Really Work? Your decision makes you the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. It works for me.

Better Science

Professor Scott Frey of the University of Oregon submits evidence that your intention in watching another with a desire to learn creates changes in the structure and function of your brain. Say the magic word – In-tention.

Once again. When we watch with Intent to Repeat, structures of our brain

are excited, triggered and activated to repeat the new behavior.

The evidence (not tradition-authority-revelation) submitted by fMRI (functional

magnetic resonance imagery) indicates our brain structure called the Intraparietal Sulcus lights up like a Christmas tree by our intention to imitate.

Motor Area

Intention to learn and repeat a motor skill you see – shakes awake our own brain.

We are actually mentally repeating (doing the same behaviors) we watch. Our brain

watches as if it were a partner in the performance of the behaviors.

What causes our motor cortex to get into the act? Our intention to learn.

The brain cells involved are called Mirror Neurons, and this report appeared in Neuroscience on December 29, 2006.

The question for Dr. Frey is how does our brain take what it sees and turn it into

a motor program (neural network) for using the new skill?

RasterMaster

We teach the use of a RasterMaster (handheld laser pacer) for speed reading.

There are three ways homo sapiens learn – trial-and-error, observation and listening to an explanation.

Dr. Paul MacLean, divides our brain into a Triune system: Reptilian Complex (instincts), Limbic System (emotions), and NeoCortex (thinking). All three are

cognitive programs working 100% of the time.

We divide our mind into two areas: consciousness (assembling data and analysis), and sub or nonconsciousness – reacting with our ancient instincts and emotions.

Homo sapiens do not use their neocortex in isolation to make decisions; judgments and decision-making are highly influenced and persuaded by our feelings

and instincts. We are not a robot, but a cyborg using all three layers of our brain and all available tools in a collaborative system.

Learning

How do we show students how to use the RM and get them to translate the strategies

into a new motor program?

First they listen to our explanation of Vestibulo-Ocular-Reflex, the 14 muscles of

the eyes, and using peripheral-vision to enlarge our field-of-vision.

Second, they watch the instructor using the RM. They concentrate on what they see with a burning desire to imitate how to 3x their reading speed and 2x their memory.

They trigger their brain to pay attention and learn through the power of human intention.

Third, they use their own RM as a pacer to underline the sentences of the text.

They begin in a random way and transcend into specific strategies of expertise.

Learning the strategies (chunking) is by trial-and-error, stimulus/response and

cause-and-effect.

When we watch with an intention to learn – specific structures of our brain create

engrams (memory trances) of knowledge 90% similar to those producing the motor

skill by live practice.

Does the best learning program combines all three systems: listening, watching and trial-and-error?

Endwords

Professor Frey concludes: it is the intention of the learner not the visual stimulus they view that is the killer application.

For scholars: it is our parietal-frontal mirror neurons, which encode what they see into brain cells of our primary motor cortex.

The evidence is scientific and persuasive yet we prefer the tri-pronged approach

of seeing, hearing and doing. You decide.

See ya,

“Most people prefer to believe that their leaders are just and fair, even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which he lives is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it. To take action in the face of corrupt government entails risks of harm to life and loved ones. To choose to do nothing is to surrender one’s self-image of standing for principles. Most people do not have the courage to face that choice. Hence, most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all.” – Michael Rivero

Frozen Moments at the Altar of Truth

It all started for me in 1959 when I was born, I mean the way I’ve been lied to through mainstream media. One of my earliest memories was sitting in front of the TV with my family after JFK was assassinated. My mother and grandmother weeping uncontrollably, my father and grandfather – avowing that this was a “good man” and it’s “always the best who get taken so young”. I had no idea what was going on, being just four and a half years old – but that moment solidified like crystal in my mind – my first big “frozen moment”.

A few short years later we were all sitting there again in front of the TV at 3am watching Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, uttering those prophetic words. I’ll never forget the neighbour beside us, this old Italian guy who was saying that the entire lunar mission had to be a hoax, we were a bunch of suckers for believing it, it couldn’t be true. Everybody I knew thought he was nuts, myself included. I was busy having my head filled with such grand thoughts about the nobility and goodness of mankind, and like my family and almost all my neighbours, I was once again willing to believe in my heart that whatever these icons of the public trust on TV told us was the absolute truth – after all, these were the same folks who gave us the news every night, every single evening around the dinner hour, so we could find out what’s happening in the world, what to think about, how to judge those people over there, over here, anywhere. I’ll never forget how proud I was watching man walk on the moon, my 10 year old heart bursting out of my chest, feeling so lucky to be alive at that time and watching it on TV. This was a huge “frozen moment”.

There are other mental snapshots which of course remain quite vivid in my mind. Robert Kennedy & Martin Luther King assassinations, the war in Vietnam that spanned my entire childhood, the Nixon Watergate hearings, Iran Contra. It could not enter our mind that anything we saw on television could be any less than the gospel truth, because we live in the Western hemisphere, the best, most noble hemisphere on this planet. Just ask Walter Cronkite, or Dan Rather, or Ronald McDonald, or Barney the Friggin’ Dinosaur – any talking head that props up in a medium shot while occupying the standard 4 by 3 aspect ratio, mind-inhibiting confines of this ribald human invention. They must be telling the truth – gotta be real, after all, “I saw it on TV”.

Jump to Sept. 11th 2001.

I’m sitting in my office when a news bulletin flashes on my computer screen and I’m alerted to the 9/11 attack in NYC. As if by some secret homing mechanism, my workmates also wander outside of their respective cells and converge in the communal coffee area – and so it starts, we immediately begin parroting the official myth fed to us by the news media about this event. Talk is about Osama and the crazed 19 Muslim hijackers. Ooh boy, those rag-heads are goona get theirs, those bastards are sure to pay – I hope Uncle Sam really nukes them back to the stone age for what they’ve done, and on and on we chattered for days and weeks, all the while being spun and manipulated as always. The biggest “frozen moment” of my life so far.

I’ll never forget that day and the horror of watching those planes hit the towers, or the people falling to their tragic deaths, and like the other “shock and awe” moments, I can literally close my eyes and transport myself to that situation, just like I was there at that very moment. And when I remember, the images and ideas as portrayed to me by my lifelong companion the television are there in my mind, with the pictures, movies, sounds – Nay, it isn’t really there with me – it IS me. I’m nothing more, at those times in my life, than a biological download mechanism that will barf up all the crud it’s been fed by the societal teat from which I’d been trained to suckle on for all my ideas and opinions since birth.

And so another 5 years will elapse, almost every single day – let’s catch some news and see what’s happening, let’s tune in before bed and follow that story, let’s wrap our life around this version of reality, which is hardly any reality at all. But I still didn’t know that, not until 5 full years after 9/11.

“Doubt is the vestibule which we all must pass through before we can enter the temple of truth” – osho

Awakening

Thank you 9/11.

Once I saw the truth about this event my life changed forever, and ultimately for the better. It didn’t happen all at once, nor was it easy or very pleasant at all, this process demands so much of you, and unless you are the kind of person capable of a paradigm shift you won’t get there. Doesn’t matter how smart, how much money, how high you can jump – not everyone is able to look objectively at their social conditioning, step outside of themselves and honestly analyze their programming, fiddle with the knobs and make an adjustment. I remember this “moment” as the biggest, most life changing of all – that exact instant when I “got it”, and it wasn’t just the getting of 9/11 that was realized at that pivotal moment. It was so much more, for I knew in that nanosecond that I had apprehended a truth – I could now define a mechanism of which media was only but an important part. This gigantic contrivance that could so easily promulgate these lies was now revealed to me, and deserved my faith in their impartiality and honesty for the last time. I had depended on them for more than 40 years of my life, and it turns out they are quite willing to not only lie to everyone, but even more important – I realized that there are so many things they are willing to not tell us at all.

“We won’t get fooled again” – the Who

That moment of illumination occurred while I was listening to a lecture by Dr. David Ray Griffin, he was explaining why the official account of 9/11 could not be true – the logic irrefutable, the proofs incontrovertible, the evidence overwhelming, but what struck me most was the grace and dignity of this man, able to manifest such a positive aspect in the revealing of truth, all the while dealing face to face with such an ugly, disgusting reality. Probably the last “frozen moment” I will ever experience.

“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.” Galileo Galilei

And so I sat atop this long slope looking straight back down at my life which ascended upward like one side of a pyramid, the slant provided to me by my once trusted patriarchal friend the media, it was time to say goodbye. My existence was different from that moment on, and so was my relationship with the world, like when you find out that your best friend has been sleeping with your girlfriend for the last 2 years and everybody’s been lying about it to your face. I vowed to myself at that very moment that I would refuse to accept any more lies in my life, and I would take responsibility for my own opinions. I made a promise to no longer listen to BS without calling to account those responsible for the lies and hypocrisy. At the very least we should stand for something worthwhile in our lives, like truth.

It was too convenient to settle on the official explanations for 9-11 at the time, and I forgive myself, and you too if you still believe them. It would simply be unreasonable for me to be at odds with anyone just because they occupied a temporal reality where I once stood.

I have yet to meet an ignorant man whose roots are not embedded in my soul. – Kahlil Gibran

If somebody came to me a year before I was open to the truth, I would have probably got angry and turned them aside. The best we can hope for is to present people with anomalies regarding the official narrative, and let each person face the myriad incongruities and come to their own conclusions. You see, some people figured it out right away, but finding out the truth is not any indication of how intelligent you are – that judgement comes later. It took me 5 years, not because I couldn’t understand it, but rather because I was unaware of it, and didn’t even consider that what I was told was false.

“All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.” Galileo Galilei

It’s the classic difference between ignorance and stupidity – I was ignorant, I became aware of the facts, no more ignorance. A stupid person, however, continues to believe something even after receiving lots of information to the contrary. If you don’t know the truth about 9/11 you must educate yourself, if you do know the truth then you are compelled to educate others. Looking back is not easy, neither is facing the real truth about the situation now. I disagree with those who say, never mind 9-11, let’s deal with the war, or the environment – there are all these other problems now – that was 6 years ago. WRONG – BIG X on that one. It is my firm belief that if we are unable to approach the biggest examples of deceit and injustice so prevalent at this very moment, it behooves us to examine that which is really important in our lives, not to mention any concerns of social conscience or morality. I’m so sick of hearing about the “war on terror”, about “al Qaeda”, etc. So much suffering and injustice has resulted from the continued insistence on this mythology – predicated on the lie of 9/11.

“You cannot win a War on Terrorism. It’s like having a war on jealousy” – David Cross

“The World is not dangerous because of those who do harm but because of those who look at it without doing anything.” – Albert Einstein

This issue calls everyone to account, you have to make a decision, and its not a happy conclusion to arrive at, so many prefer to remain comfortable within the lie – the problem being, there are many fellow human beings on this planet who are getting killed every day, right now as a matter of fact. Each day this continues we must ask ourselves how and if our actions, or non actions, are contributing to this injustice. It sickens me, I hate this situation – I didn’t create it yet I must face this moral dilemma – if I don’t speak out against it and do everything within my power to change it, then I must admit I’m part of the problem that allows it to continue. I don’t want my great great grandchildren to look back and say, “Why did the people of WWII Germany and 21st century America allow Hitler and Bush to gain so much power and commit such atrocities?” “Gee, I don’t know, Fleeble-Bop Four of Seven, I guess those people were just spineless sheep”.

“He who allows oppression, shares the crime.” – Erasmus Darwin, grandfather of Charles Darwin

“Noncooperation with evil is as much a duty as cooperation with good.” – Gandhi

When I was young I used to enjoy watching those old WWII movies, and I’m sure that like most people, along with pretending I was one of the valiant heroes being portrayed, I wondered how folks in Germany could allow Hitler and his Nazis to gain such power in that country. Now I understand, many of the German people were as much victims as all of us at this moment, unable to voice their opinions without being ridiculed and attacked, rights and freedoms taken away by a fascist state, having to bear the ignominy of witnessing your government commit acts of genocide, terror and torture, all the while pretending to be noble and good. And let’s not forget our old friend the television – gone are the days of my youth when we could witness some actual journalistic integrity on the news, along with some innocently entertaining shows like “Gilligan’s Island”. Now we must listen to the corporate propaganda machine spew forth so much sewage they call news, all the while trying to amuse and divert us with salacious filth and mindless stupidity dressed as entertainment.

“Men are more easily governed through their vices than through their virtues.” Napoleon Bonaparte

I used to think that knowledge of humanity was cumulative, that we could learn from the examples throughout history and say, no, Nazi Germany could never happen now, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just a one-off, we’ll never make those mistakes again. True freedom must be defended continually, and against all enemies. People have asked me, aren’t you afraid of speaking out about 9-11, aren’t you worried? Now whom should I be worried about, the awful Muslim radical type Al Qaeda terrorists that have been so well defined by the US government, or the US government itself?

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – Abraham Lincoln

Come on folks, is anybody really falling for the oldest trick in the book? First, you must make the people afraid that they will be attacked, so we attack ourselves and frighten the bejeezes out of everybody, then we smear and vilify anybody who doesn’t defend our position as being unpatriotic, and sympathetic to the terrorists. It’s the old “bait and switch” routine, and if you buy it so readily then go downtown and play a few games of 3 Card Monty – I hear there’s pretty good odds there too. My being gets filled with revulsion when I watch that “commander in filth” stand there and utter ridiculous statements like, “If you’re not with us, you’re with the terrorists”. Now what kind of specious, dumb-ass logic is that? Especially when you consider that he himself is the terrorist in question. Reminds me of that original Star Trek episode “The Changeling” when they slap the anti-gravs onto Nomad the robot. “If you are the creator then you are perfect, but if you made a mistake then you cannot be the creator”. Now let’s try it today, “If I am not with you, then I am with the terrorists, but, if you are the terrorist, then how can I be with you and not with the terrorists…. Kaboom!” Me and Nomad both have smoke billowing out our ass – where’s the miniskirt blond from Rigel 6 when you need her?

“It takes a whole village to raise an idiot, and a controlled media to make him president” – Peter Zaza

Realize that everything you experience from the limited lamestream media perspective is a form of low-level reality – riddled with half-truths, partial-truths, and a lot of no-truths at all. Designed to confuse and program you, the enemy – yes, that’s right – it isn’t some Iraqi, or Iranian, or Korean, or Chinese – they are all targets as well, nobody is exempt from this vast scourge creeping over the earth – and lest you think this is mere paranoia, the proof is now being publicly exposed everywhere, all you have to do is open your eyes, or more directly – open your mind. The proof is in the utter secrecy surrounding plans for unification, the proof is in the writings of the United Nations and Agenda 21, the CFR, the Bilderberg Group. The proof is in the way they have been systematically spraying the skies of this planet for 4 decades now, and denying it. Just go outside and look up, or if you don’t get out much – look up “Chemtrails” on your Google. Lots of theories about this one; are they dumping chemicals that cause or inhibit global warming? Are they forcing some mind altering drug on everyone? Is it connected to the HAARP technology? Is it killing off the bees? Weather creation? Population control? Let’s get some answers, after all – we’re being sprayed like cockroaches, and our tax dollars and health are paying for it.

More proof

The proof is in the way I have yet to hear one cogent, logical explanation from the US government about key issues concerning the 9/11 tragedy, like WTC 7 and its mystery collapse, like molten metal found under all 3 sites, like stand-down of the military, like put options, like war-games, like gag orders, like evidence destruction, like the first time the NTSB doesn’t do an investigation on a plane crash, like many warnings not to fly, like melting of steel by jet fuel, like no black box recordings released, like wire transfers of money to supposed terrorists, etc. One of my biggest proofs is the fact that the upholders of the official story continue to shout smears and ad hominem attack on anyone who questions any of these anomalies – but absolutely refuses to address the issues raised and offer resolution of the incongruities put forth. The proof is in the way I’ve sent many letters to politicians, newspapers and magazines concerning 9/11 truth – and not one single person has ever had the decency to write me back, or even acknowledge receipt of my communication – yet, every time I have written to people like Dr. David Ray Griffin, Dr. Bob Bowman, Barry Zwicker, Kevin Barrett, Paul Craig Roberts, and many others, I get a reply – usually within a few days.

One important proof worth considering is the fact that those planes had not even brought down those towers yet and we had news reports about the al Qaeda terrorists and Osama being fed to us. Did anybody think to ask within those first few hours what evidence there was, and how did they get this evidence? Those forensics boys work pretty quick, but that’s ridiculous. I’d like to know how anybody can piece together a case like that and have it announced while we’re still watching a gaping, smoking hole in the WTC towers.

I suppose it was important to begin inculcating everyone with the myth at this critical time – the wound is wide open, time to implant the insidious virus which will begin it’s work – you always remember the first story you hear as being the most logical, especially when your reasoning faculties are suppressed and more easily manipulated. Subjects are in a state of shock – training over decades has bred complacent, child like collective mentality that looks toward authority figure of government for help and direction. People will easily be imprinted with the first story that fits their world and offers any explanation or possible resolution. The psychological warfare and it’s manipulations of the public consciousness is capped off with the date itself, 911, my goodness, when there is a huge emergency what do you do? Better call 911. There’s fear, panic, dogs refuse to bark all over the neighborhood, help me daddy, I’m calling, can’t you hear me, 911, 911…

The proof is in the way I haven’t seen one piece of evidence that those 19 Arab guys were even on any of those airplanes, no passenger manifests, no pictures or video tapes from the airport showing them boarding planes, no record of ticket purchases. Don’t you see how obviously ridiculous it is? Come on – you’ve got the airport videos showing passengers, so just show us the video of the hijackers with the other passengers, we will all believe you in 2 seconds if you show the proof, what? you don’t want to release the information to back up your case? Why the hell should I believe your story when you have evidence but won’t show it to me, that just tells me what you say is a lie. No video of the “plane” hitting the Pentagon either, or the seized tapes from a gas station and hotel nearby. Why on earth would you want to withhold such vital evidence unless you were guilty? There is simply no logical explanation for them hiding and destroying the evidence, unless the evidence points directly at them.

Perhaps the best theory I’ve heard about this event is the one put forth by Webster Griffin Tarpley. He explains how there were around 20 or more war game exercises taking place the day of 9/11, with more than a few of them enacting scenarios wherein hijacked planes would be flown into buildings. At the last couple of seconds, the drill is “flipped live” and the attack being simulated is committed for real. Tarpley explains how the secret network responsible have moles infiltrating the highest levels of government in order to pull off this complex operation, using CIA groomed Muslim patsies to take the fall. He also explains how the shadow government threatens Bush, and gets him to capitulate to their demands or else “angel is next”. In effect, there was a coup that took place that day – code words fly about the globe, secret agencies from other countries have parts to play, the military is running around all confused playing war games, other nations are on high alert – it’s like a well-crafted espionage novel except we are still living it – the way I figure, right now in the story is about the time you and I jump in and do something. Would you be surprised to discover that the London 7/7 bombings also had drills involving terrorist bombers being played out at the exact same time the actual events occurred? Incredible coincidence, eh Watson?

Meet the Press

“There is no such thing, at this date of the world’s history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. “I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone. “The business of the Journalist is to destroy truth; To lie outright; To pervert; To vilify; ….. We are intellectual prostitutes” – John Swinton, the former chief of staff of the New York Times 1880

“The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media.” – William Colby, former CIA director

“We know in the not too distant future, a half dozen corporations are going to control the media.

We took this step (merger) to ensure we were one of them”–Time Warner spokesperson.

That’s the nub of it for ya – currently there are 5 corporations that own all of the mainstream media, and those same people have vested interests in the military industrial complex. They make all kinds of wonderful products that enrich our lives, as well as bombs that kill and mutilate – pass the sugar. We have been trained our entire life to believe that what we see on that TV is somehow representative of reality. And now? Now I believe that you can take whatever message they give you – search for the diametrical opposite in your mind, and be sure that the negative value of what they say is instead the truth. Show me the United Nations with their slogans about peace and harmony, I’ll tell you about misery and bloodshed. Sing me the lyrical song about Harmonization and Prosperity – I will tell you about corporate fascism, segregation and cultural divisiveness. Talk about bringing Freedom and Democracy to Iraq – just look at the tyranny and genocide. Watch the fecal matter fly out of their mouths about the “War on Drugs” – I’ll show you a CIA complicit in the Central American and Afghanistan drug trade. Then we can look at the big business of the prison industrial complex, a commercialized system of slave labour. Corrections facilities are filled with many people who have never aggressed upon another individual, or another person’s property – locked up for years of their life, in some cases working for 20 cents an hour for big American Companies who don’t have to worry about employee benefits – and they get to use labels that say “made in the USA”.

War on Drugs? War on Poverty? War on Terror? It’s always war on somebody with these people – marginalization and exclusion of a targeted group, aggression, deceit, injustice. Create that differential through disturbance, because when there’s a steady state there is no movement, fluctuation provides great opportunity for profit and control. If you have prescient knowledge of the variables, you can create the crisis, induce reaction, offer resolution, and clean up profit-wise on the differential inherent in the controlled dynamic. Slap on a few no-bid contracts for your buddies, adjust a few widgets here, shove these assets over there, kill those ones there, no wait, sorry, I meant kill those ones AND those ones over there. Set up the false left-right struggle and watch the boneheads duke it out – all the while we control both sides, so guess who always has to win. Look in the mirror everybody – what a putz!

How far should we go? Maybe we could explore the malfeasance inherent within the entire Federal Reserve System, a misnomer of course – they are not Federal, and they don’t have any reserves. What about the IRS, absolutely ruining peoples lives for how many decades now without the legal authority to actually do anything. The CIA? Tell me how its ok to use tax dollars to plan military takeovers of democratically elected governments, or carry out assassinations, import drugs, and contravene any pretense of international law. Oh, and as a complete non sequitur – I could never figure out why the big reconstruction contracts for Iraq were not handed to the Iraqis themselves, give them a wage, let them build their country back up while building up their bank accounts, the bootstrap thing, the American way – You know, all that horse-shit! Enough examples, there are literally hundreds of things we could talk about at great length – and it just makes you sick, assuming you have a pulse.

I’ve stopped paying attention whatsoever to mainstream media, like many others I utilize alternative news sources that provide me with more honest accounts of reality than the TV’s lead story and the never ending web of lies. I’ve lost so much anger and frustration with my life through this awakening, and it’s all because I’ve figured out how and why I’ve been manipulated for so long. I used to sit there and swear at the TV, feeling as if my intelligence was being insulted, but not understanding why. About 20 years ago I started putting on the mute button during all the commercials, so then I would just swear at the news. I used to play video games, now I don’t – perhaps such activities provide a release mechanism for all that pent up frustration. I stopped wondering why every single network would carry the same stories, the same way – stopped wondering why that cheese-dick kid in Asia was wearing the same stupid shorts half way down his ass with a ball-cap turned sideways, or backwards on purpose, as all those other cheese-dick kids in the States, Italy, you name it. I had to wonder what force could make the same styles and trends popular everywhere, at the same time. Don’t you ever wonder about such things? like when a movie or book comes out dealing with the wild west, or aliens, or whatever – a bunch of others come out at the same time, and not just copycats mimicking to cash in on a popular idea, I mean they all get released concurrently, it’s as if the popular culture is dictated to and operating via mandate, and indeed it is. Network television is thus relegated to the same level of truth and integrity as any late night infomercial we are beleaguered with when yon Morpheus denies us respite from the daily moil.

After somebody lies to me 10,000 times over my entire life, I’m a bit reticent to believe their stories “absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event” like hearing some actual truth for once. They must be telling a lie – after all, “I saw it on TV”.

“The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers” – Thomas Jefferson

Later, the world would be introduced to him via a hit motion picture. His name was Carl Brashear but I called him Chief – short for Master Chief Carl Maxie Brashear U.S.N. You may never have heard of him but there is a good chance you have seen the movie or a TV program about his life. His life inspired the movie “Men of Honor” and it stars Cuba Gooding Jr. as Chief Brashear. It also stars Robert De Niro, Charlize Theron and Hal Holbrook. But, this article isn’t about the movie. You can check that out for yourself and I recommend you rent it soon.

This story is about never giving up. There is already a lot of media talk about how 2008 is going to be a difficult one for business. And, you know what? If you believe that then I can pretty much guarantee it will be – for you. But, if you focus on a goal and tell yourself that you will never, ever give up then I can pretty much guarantee it will be a fine year – for you. So much of what happens in our lives has to do with how we believe and what we value. Chief Brashear epitomized the belief that you never give up. Here is a little of his story.

When he enlisted in early 1948 the Navy had barely been desegregated and after basic training he was assigned to an officer’s mess hall as a steward who served meals and polished the officers’ shoes. But, he wanted something more in life and while watching some divers working one day off an aircraft carrier, he decided that he was going to become a deep sea diver. He applied to school but was told that there were no “colored” divers in the Navy. He responded that they were about to get their first. In 1954, he became the first African American to attend and graduate from the US Navy Diving & Salvage School. He later became a Master Diver and a Master Chief Petty Officer, the first in the Navy.

I met the Chief under strained circumstances. I was planning on being discharged from the Navy in November of 1970 after serving a little over three years. I wasn’t supposed to be discharged until a year later but I was one of thousands who qualified at that time for an early discharge. I was looking forward to starting my career as a civilian photojournalist when out of the blue, I got new orders. It seemed the USS Recovery ARS-43 needed someone with my set of unique qualifications and rank (at least that’s what my commanding officer told me) and I wasn’t getting out early. Instead, I was going to spend another year at sea and I would most likely be going to the Mediterranean for six months. I wasn’t happy.

Job Listings Click here

A few months after I had already reported to the Recovery, Chief Brashear was getting orders to report to the same ship to assume the role of Master Diver. It’s funny how life works out but the coincidence of us getting orders to the same ship would change my life. I wouldn’t appreciate how much until years later.

Shortly after getting settled onboard, I started getting to know the people I would be working with. One of them, a First Class diver by the name of George Caswell brought me up to date on the life of Carl Brashear when we heard he was going to be the new Master Diver. He told me the story of how in 1966, Chief Brashear had been working on the USS Hoist. They were recovering a nuclear bomb that had been lost when two of our planes collided while refueling near the Canary Islands. During operations a rigging line broke and a metal pipe flew and stuck Chief Brashear’s left leg below the knee and nearly sheared it off. He spent the next two years rehabbing his leg which was amputated. But, instead of being discharged or taking a desk job, Chief Brashear was determined to be reinstated as a diver. In April 1968, he became the first amputee to be certified as a Navy Salvage & Rescue Deep Sea Diver. Two years later he and I were to meet up on the Recovery.

As I mentioned earlier, I wasn’t particularly happy about having to serve another year at sea. But, I made the best of it and quickly gained the support of the operations officer to whom I reported and my commanding officer. In fact, I was given permission to start a ship’s newspaper as we were leaving for a six month “Med Cruise.” Putting out the newspaper gave me a creative outlet and I enjoyed it very much since I had worked as a reporter and a photographer on a daily paper before enlisting. I typed on a manual typewriter using a two-ply spirit master and then ran it off on a ditto machine. The first few issues were mostly about the ports we were visiting with some current event news thrown in. But, it wasn’t long before I decided to start writing opinion pieces. We were somewhere off the coast of Italy when I wrote my opinion about the Vietnam War, President Nixon and the Uniform Code of Military Justice all in one issue.

As newspapers go, it managed to cause one heck of a lot of furor. My operations officer told me it actually caused a shouting match at dinner that night in the officers’ mess. The career men on board (which would include Chief Brashear) were not pleased by my opinions and several shared their opinions of me with me. The next day the captain ended up explaining to me that as a US Navy Petty Officer I was not allowed the freedom to express my opinions about either our commander in chief or the Uniform Code of Military Justice. I think it was my statement that the term “military justice is an oxymoron” that got them most wound up. That was the end of the ship’s paper.

That evening, after word of the newspaper’s cancellation got out, I was on watch in the Combat Information Center (my office) when I got a knock on my locked door. Looking out the peephole I saw it was Chief Brashear. He had never visited me before so I was pretty much expecting he had something to say about the newspaper. But, he didn’t mention it. He just said he was on the bridge and thought he’d stop in to chat. He then wondered if I would like to join him in the boatswain’s locker (his office) after I got off duty to “work out” with him. He had a look in his eye that told me I’d be out of my mind to accept that invitation. He apparently was also not amused by my opinions. I told him I didn’t think I would be joining him and he said okay and that was the end of the discussion. For the next few weeks, I stayed clear of him except when we had to work together and he ignored me except to give me a stare once in a while. Call it détente. But then something happened that changed everything.

Chief Financial Officer Job Description

The ship was short on its quotient of officers on board and the result was the officers had to stand 12 hours on and 12 hours off watches as Underway Officer of the Deck (UOOD). The UOOD is person who gives the orders on the bridge while the ship is underway. He’s in charge of giving navigation orders, avoiding running into anything, and assuring the safety of the ship and its sailors. One day, the operations officer was complaining about the watches when he flippantly said to me, “You should be standing UOOD watches since you teach us anyway.” It was true that part of my job was teaching new officers some of the things they had to know to qualify as an UOOD. I said I would be happy to do that if the Navy ever decides to let an enlisted person run a ship underway. I didn’t think anymore about it.

Now it so happened that the operations officer was a tenacious kind of researcher. He checked into all the regulations and found that there were none that said you actually had to be a commissioned officer to qualify as an underway officer of the deck. You only had to pass a written test and be certified by the captain. Somehow, he talked the captain into allowing me to take the test. I passed it and the next thing I knew the captain had certified me as a UOOD and I was put on the watch rotation. In those days if we weren’t off rescuing or salvaging, we usually spent time running drills and also shadowing Russian trawler “spy ships” which made for some interesting watches as UOOD.

I was standing one of my first watches (it might have been the first) when Chief Brashear came up to the bridge. We were going through the formal ritual of changing UOOD’s which involved me stating that “this is Petty Officer Poole and I have the Deck and the Conn.” I remember looking at Chief Brashear who had a look of disbelief on his face. He had never seen an enlisted man be given the Deck or Conn underway. It was unheard of at that time.

The following day I found the Chief, once again, visiting my office to chat. He wanted to know how it came to be that I was standing an UOOD watch. And, he wanted to know how he could do the same thing. I told him how there wasn’t any regulation that said he couldn’t and that he could take the same test I took as long as the captain was good with it. I told him I’d help him with the things he needed to know that he wasn’t already familiar with and a few weeks later Master Chief Brashear was certified as an Underway Officer of the Deck.

From that point on we started talking about our lives and our futures when one of us had a night watch and things were quiet on the bridge. I told him how I was going to continue in photojournalism or maybe even studio photography. He told me about his life since being born in Kentucky the son of sharecroppers. He never once complained about the prejudice he faced in becoming a diver. He never bemoaned the loss of his leg. Instead, he talked about never giving up on your dreams and wanting to experience as much as possible in life. I learned that when he wanted to go to First Class Diver’s School, he couldn’t pass the first time because of the math, physics and chemistry needed. He had enlisted with only a grade school education. He enrolled in the Armed Forces Institute and worked for three years to master the necessary science skills. He got his GED and went back to First Class Diver’s School where he graduated third in his class.

He would get excited when I would talk about my future and he encouraged me to do everything and anything I wanted in life. He was one of the toughest men I have ever known. But, he was tougher on himself than anyone else. He didn’t know the meaning of “you can’t do it” and he pushed himself to withstand mental, emotional and physical pain that would break most anyone else because he couldn’t accept giving up. He taught me a lot about not letting someone else take away your dreams.

Master Chief Brashear died of respiratory and heart failure in 2006. How a man with a heart as big as his can die of heart failure is a mystery of nature. His son, Phillip Brashear, said at his funeral that even while dying, his father seemed unwilling to let go of a life built on determination. “Even though his lungs failed him, his heart was still beating.” Carl Brashear showed us all what a human being is capable of accomplishing when he’s faced with overwhelming odds. Think about that when you find yourself thinking about how 2008 is going to be a “tough year” for business. Go rent the movie, “Men of Honor.” You might find yourself saying, “Never Give Up.”

What is going on with e-commerce websites? It appears that online entrepreneurs spend so much time worrying about website traffic that they ignore the customers who actually want to buy something.

Recently, I tried to order a product we spotted at a trade show. It was perfect for our application so we did a Google search to find the manufacturer and a list of dealers who sold the item.

Almost all the websites that distributed the product had proper contact information and invited people to call, which we did. After six frustrating phone calls to dealers we still hadn’t found anyone willing to answer the telephone. Since we had to leave a message almost everywhere we called, we decided to try California even though we are located in the east, and it was far too early for any reasonable person to be at work.

We finally got in touch with a friendly salesperson in Boston, who was very helpful but unfortunately the company was out of stock. Despite not being able to fill the order, we kept their information on file because they were friendly, accommodating, and dealt with all our questions. They tried their best to meet our needs but if we would have ordered using their online system and found out later that the product was back-ordered we would have been very upset since we had a deadline to meet.

Next we reached the manufacturer who told us he was too busy to check if he had any stock, and maybe he could get back to us by four o’clock. Just as we were ready to give up, the phone rang; it was the owner of the California dealer, who had the product in stock, took the order, and shipped it out the same day.

Businesses, especially website businesses cannot run on autopilot; customers are people and they expect to be treated like human beings. Now it is not always possible to answer every phone call the minute someone calls, or to have every product in stock when people need it, but the more human interaction you can build into your website the better your sales will be. To paraphrase that old saying about horses, ‘you can lead search traffic to your website, but you can’t make them order.’

Why Should Anybody Buy From You?

Ask yourself this simple question: why should anybody buy anything from you? You probably aren’t the only company that sells your product or service, and even if you are, there are most likely substitutes available from competitors.

When potential customers find you on Google they are also finding all your competitors. So unless you sell a totally unique, non-fungible (non substitutable) product, service or brand that is also the lowest priced on the market, then you best give people some compelling reason to buy from you.

The product we were looking for was available from a dozen different website businesses, spread all over the United States and they all sold the same product at the same price. In the final analysis we purchased from the supplier that was the furthest distance away in a time zone three hours earlier than us; but we purchased from that supplier because we were able to talk to a someone who answered all our questions in a friendly, intelligent, and engaging manner.

It’s what used to be called customer service before businesses were turned over to database programmers, number crunchers, and search savants who think of human interaction as something to be avoided.

The Human Touch Creates Confidence and Sales

Websites are a very efficient method of lead generation and potential sales as long as you engage your audience with a presentation delivered by a real person who explains as much as possible about the things you sell, and how you sell them. And that includes things like delivery, which is one of the major complaints and points-of-contention that online customers have. Nobody likes surprises, especially when they cost time and money.

Web sales success has little to do with features, benefits, or technical advancements, in fact a barrage of features and specifications is just as likely to confuse visitors, and paralyze their purchase decision. The one tactic that overcomes this problem, that inspires confidence in your advice, trust in your ability to deliver, and convinces people to purchase, is information presented by a real human being.

You Can’t Always Handle Things Personally

Understanding you cannot always be available, the next best thing is Web video. A video provides a complete, consistent, error-free, professional presentation of the information you want customers to receive. Hiring, training, and managing staff is expensive, and their handling of customers is often unreliable, resulting in a negative impression of your company.

Least We Forget Tricky Dick

And that brings me to the Web entrepreneur who thinks that they are so charming and persuasive that they are going to be their own Web-video host.

Anybody who studies audience behavior is familiar with the classic case of the 1960 Presidential debate between Nixon and Kennedy. Most people who listened to the debate on the radio thought Nixon won, while the people who watched on television thought Kennedy won. This was a seminal example of how auditory and visual performance influences content, impression and response.

This lesson has been well learned by politicians but has somehow escaped the attention of business leaders and Web entrepreneurs.

Human Motivational Optimization

Web entrepreneur’s obsession with search optimization, and their fascination with technical solutions to human problems, has created an e-commerce environment that is decidedly remote and unfriendly. Sales are a motivational exercise in people-problem solving: people buy things that fulfill physical, emotional, and psychological needs. The answer is to adopt a Human Motivational Optimization approach to the presentation of your website material.

What is HUMAN MOTIVATIONAL OPTIMIZATION? It is a mindset used for designing Web experiences for human beings, not just search engine spiders.

Human Motivational Optimization For E-commerce

Let’s say you have an online business that sells clothing. The best way to display clothing is on a model who twists and turns so the audience can see the item from all sides, as well as how it hangs or drapes on a real person. A garment displayed flat looks like a rag, and just doesn’t do the product justice.

Even quality still photography doesn’t show how a garment looks when someone moves; and high quality fashion photography is more expensive than short fifteen to twenty second Web videos.

You can also add some professional voice-over narration that explains all the fabric details, design features and options available. A Web video fashion catalog is the most effective way to sell clothes online.

Perhaps you sell cosmetics. Another product ideally suited for Web video. Teaching visitors what products look best together based on particular facial features and coloring as well as different makeup styles for work, play, and evening are ideal opportunities to up-sell and build confidence in you and your products. Customer education is one of the best Web marketing tactics you can employ in order to distinguish yourself from the competition.

Not Every Product Is Sexy

Clothing and cosmetics are both high profile products, but let’s say you sell something that is not quite so sexy, something like sandpaper. Sandpaper is boring but if you need an abrasive product you better pick the right one or you’ll make a mess of whatever you are trying to build.

Teaching customers what products to use turns one-time buyers into long-term customers. When customers buy the wrong thing, they invariably blame the supplier, while suppliers that provide valuable purchase advice create a significant barrier to competition.

Even major box store retailers have learned that they cannot afford to have a bunch of part-timers helping customers. Best Buy has their Geek Squad and Apple Stores have their Geniuses.

Returns on electronics and computer equipment are too costly, and that goes double for online businesses where shipping is a factor. And that doesn’t take into account customer ill will created by the aggravation and frustration of being sold the wrong thing. Rather than being an expense, a professionally produced Web-video e-commerce catalog is actually a tactic that saves time and money, both in the sales process, and customer relations.

Web video engages audience attention; informs viewers of product advantages, details and options; and explains who should purchase, as well as who shouldn’t. It educates people on how to get the most out of what you sell, and it does it in the most compelling and memorable manner. It establishes a trust-based relationship with clients and that is something competitors cannot overcome with high pressure, price-slashing tactics.

The Geeks are Killing Your Business

Today we have a generation of entrepreneurs trained in highly specialized technical areas like search engine optimization, database development, statistical analysis, and Web-based programming. All of these disciplines view business, even marketing, advertising and public relations as if they are somehow quantifiable, scientific disciplines that can be measured and managed without consideration of that messy notion called human nature.

The biggest problem in business is dealing with people, and just because your business is Web-based, doesn’t mean people no longer count.

We know ‘if you build it, they will come’ is not a viable marketing strategy, and the idea ‘if they find you, they will buy’ is just as wrong. Start thinking in terms of Human Motivational Optimization: start designing websites for people, not search engines.

Forrest Gump – 4 Stars (Excellent)

“Forrest Gump” begins with a feather being lifted through the air by a breeze that brings it to the feet of Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), who is sitting at a bus stop in Savannah (GA). Gump picks it up and puts it in a “Curious George” children’s book. He then begins to tell the story of his life to the first of several people who are waiting with him for the next bus.

Some of the people are great listeners and others are not, but make no mistake about it, Gump is a master storyteller. He is simple, unpretentious, honest, not bright and full of integrity. For such a humble person, his story is almost unbelievable.

Forrest wears braces on his legs to walk in childhood, eludes the bullies who taunt him, makes friends with Jenny (Robin Wright Penn) who he will pursue his entire life, meets Elvis Presley, meets three Presidents—John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon, and receives the Congressional Medal of Honor for service in Vietnam, where he saves Lieutenant Dan (Gary Sinise) and loses his friend, Private “Bubba” (Mykelti Williamson).

At an anti-war rally in Washington, DC he briefly reunites with Jenny, whose life is a mess after searching for fame and pursuing a hippie lifestyle. Forrest starts a table tennis craze and becomes a nationally-known ping-pong whiz, using the money he earns to start a very successful shrimp boat business with Lt. Dan, who invests their money in Apple stock and both become wealthy in the process.

He then inspires people to jog, helps an entrepreneur create the smiley face stickers, and faces the loss of his mother (Sally Field), who tells him he must work out his own destiny. Through it all, Jenny and love eludes him. Forrest lived in turbulent times.

If you are dizzy just imagining all of this, so was I. After seeing Forrest Gump the first time I was appreciative of the film’s merit, but overwhelmed by how one person could accomplish so much and be around so many famous people. After watching Forrest Gump 3 more times, I got over it and now only sing its praises.

Eventually Jenny sees Forrest running on television and writes him a letter to come see her. When he does, he discovers that Jenny has a son and is very sick. She asks Forrest to marry her, and soon after he does, she dies. He learns that he is the father of her child, and commits to raising him. When young Forrest gets on the bus for his first day of school, the white feather falls from the Curious George book he is carrying, is caught in the breeze and drifts skyward.

If you are wondering about the feather, it was real, but its performance in the movie was computer-based. The feather is important because it raises the question of whether we are all floating around accidental-like on a breeze, or if we each actually have a destiny. Forrest surmises that perhaps it is both.

Everything that happens to Forrest Gump is worth seeing, and much of what happens teaches us important lessons in life. This is a love story, a story of relationships and the story of one person in a very big world that is sometimes almost impossible to understand. All that is good and much that is bad is covered in the film.

To appreciate where Forrest Gump is coming from, learn from these memorable lines in the film:

1) Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: “Have you found Jesus yet, Gump?” Forrest Gump: “I didn’t know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir.”

2) Forrrest Gump: (describing Vietnam) “We was always taking long walks, and we was always looking for a guy named Charlie.”

3) Jenny Curran: “Have you ever been with a girl, Forrest?” Forrest Gump: (nervously) “I sit next to them in my Home Economics class . . .”

4) Jenny Curran: “His name’s Forrest.” Forrest Gump: “Like me.” Jenny Curran: “I named him after his daddy.” Forrest Gump: “He got a daddy named Forrest, too?” Jenny Curran: “You’re his daddy, Forrest.”

5) Jenny Curran: “Do you ever dream, Forrest, about who you’re gonna be?” Forrest Gump: “Who I’m gonna be?” Jenny Curran: “Yeah.” Forrest Gump: “Aren’t—aren’t I going to be me?”

6) Forrest Gump: “I’m not a smart man . . . but I know what love is.”

7) Forrest Gump: “Mama always said life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” This line was voted 40th among the Top 100 Movie Quotes by the American Film Institute. In 2007, The AFI rated Forrest Gump as the 76th Greatest Movie of All Time.

Forrest Gump: “Stupid is as stupid does.”

Tom Hanks patterned his accent after young Forrest (Michael Conner Humphreys, who actually talked that way).

Forrest Gump was an immensely successful film, with a production cost of $55 million and a worldwide gross of $677+ million. After its release in 1994, it became the fastest grossing Paramount film to reach the $100 million, $150 million and $200 million marks, and passed $250 million in 66 days.

Even more important, Forrest Gump won 6 Oscars at the Academy Awards—for Best Picture, Tom Hanks for Best Actor, Robert Zemeckis for Best Director, Eric Roth for Best Screenplay based on Winston Groom’s novel, Arthur Schmidt for Best Film Editing, and Ken Ralston, George Murphy, Stephen Rosenbaum and Allen Hall for Best Visual Effects.

Forrest Gump also picked up another 7 Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Gary Sinise), Best Original Musical Score (Alan Silvestri), Best Set Decoration, Best Cinematography (Don Burgess), Best Makeup, Best Sound, and Best Sound Effects Editing.

Among its other 32 wins and 38 nominations were 7 Golden Globe nominations and wins for Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture.

As is true with just about any other award-winning production, many famous professionals passed on the opportunity to be part of the success. Terry Gilliam and Barry Sonnenfeld were offered the chance to direct the film. Bill Murray was considered for the role of Forrest, Chevy Chase turned down the role of Forrest, and three others turned down the role of Bubba—David Alan Grier, Dave Chappelle and Ice Cube.

Tom Hanks said that he would make the film only if all the events that took place were historically accurate. For example, when Gump calls to report the Watergate burglary, the security guard on duty answers the phone by saying, “Security, Frank Willis.” Willis was the actual guard on duty that night who discovered the break-in that led to Richard Nixon’s resignation from the Presidency.

Tom Hanks is one incredible, bankable actor. While Forrest Gump grossed $677 million and is far and away his biggest box office success, he has been involved in 19 other films grossing $100+ million, and he ranks 3rd among all actors appearing in films with $3.3 billion generated.

Forrest Gump was directed by Robert Zemeckis, with the screenplay written by Eric Roth based on Winston Groom’s novel. I really liked Forrest Gump and I think you will too. If you have seen it before, revisit it again and relive the magic moments of hope, courage, patience, love, understanding and compassion—all of which give special meaning to our life.

Here it is again. That time of the year when, according to the church, we should celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. – According to Bart Simpson, the birth of Santa Claus. – Some of the holiday traditions are sending cards to people you don’t really know and/or only care about for personal gain, decorate the house, the Christmas tree and put up Christmas light – Even tough it might be tiresome and time consuming and will have to removed after a couple of weeks followed by equally beautiful and bright bills -, sing Christmas carols – watch out for cracks on windows, – the last trip to church for the year (First: New Year, Second: Easter), stuff yourself with turkey and other Christmas treats and the most important part, remember that giving is more important than receiving. – Yeah right!

Anyway, there are some great Christmas movies in the theaters.

Four Christmases, Staring: Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspon, Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Jon Voight and Jon Favreau. Synopsis: A couple struggle to visit all four of their divorced parents on Christmas Day. – That’s what happens when you lie then caught.

Nothing Like The Holidays, Staring: Alfred Molina, Elizabeth Peña, Freddy Rodríguez, Luis Guzmán, Jay Hernandez, John Leguizamo, Debra Messing, Vanessa Ferlito, Melonie Diaz. Synopsis: A Puerto Rican family living in the area of Humboldt Park in west Chicago faces what may be their last Christmas together. – Don’t let the title fool you.

A Christmas Tale, Staring: Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Paul Roussilon, Anne Consigny, Mathieu Amalric, Melvil Poupaud, Hippolyte Giradot and Emmanuelle Devos. Synopsis: The Vuillard’s shared history of physical and mental illness, estrangement, self harm, and loss doesn’t lead itself to the idea of a cheerful holiday season. But can a Christmastime reunion, a scheme concocted by three of the youngest family members, finally bring peace their clan – The actors might not be familiar because the movie is French. (“Un Conte de Noël”).

Movie which will be release in theater on Christmas are:

Marley and Me, Staring: Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson. Synopsis: A family learns important life lessons from their adorable, but naughty and neurotic dog. – Did you see Jen on the cover of GQ Magazine?

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Starring: Brad Pitt and Kate Blanchet. Synopsis: Tells the story of Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences. – Curious indeed.

Bedtime Stories, Staring: Adam Sandler and Courtney Cox. Synopsis: A family comedy about a hotel handyman whose life changes when the lavish bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to magically come true. – Now this seems like an ideal Christmas movie.

Movies which don’t fit in the Christmas genre are: Valkyrie staring Tom Cruise – Who hasn’t been abducted by aliens. Yet. – is the true story about a plot to assassinate Hitler, Revolutionary Road staring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet – Yep, their first movie together since Titanic – is about young couple living in a Connecticut suburb during the mid-1950s struggle to come to terms with their personal problems while trying to raise their two children and Frost/Nixon staring Frank Langella, Michael Sheen, Sam Rockwell and Kevin Bacon is a dramatic retelling of the post-Watergate television interviews between British talk-show host David Frost and former president Richard Nixon. – We can handle the truth. Can’t we?

To everyone I wish you 2008 Merry Christmases. And Remember don’t drink (alcohol) then drive – drinking and driving is also illegal and dangerous by the way – eat responsibly – you don’t want it to be your last Christmas by sending you cholesterol level to the roof – be careful with lights, candles and fireworks unless you want to be homeless, get a trip to the hospital or host a funeral the next day.

Love

As to who to bet on, the answer will probably be a bit vaguer than the first one. Most of the time people bet on a team because it is their home team-a New Yorker betting on the Yankees-or simply because they grew up watching the team and idolize it, like when someone loves the Red Sox because he or she remembers dad taking them to the ballgame on weekends.

However, if you are one to seriously bet on sports, you want to get a better reason to invest your hard earned money. If you are looking to bet on sports that are easier to understand and follow, you might want to try baseball. However, if you /bet on sports/ like the Major League Baseball, chances are you need to understand the pitching lineups of each team so you can get the best picks. This may be a bit confusing at first, but it is infinitely better than understanding more complicated numbers in other sports.

To bet on sports like baseball, it is important to look at the setup of each team whenever they are facing a lefty or righty pitcher. The reason behind this is that some managers will not allow their lefty players to play if they know that the right-handed people can manage the game. The Boston Red Sox have premium offensive ball players. They have both Trot Nixon and Johnny Damon holding their own in the outfield and both of them are left-handed when batting. Because of their dexterity, they score more home runs when facing right-handed pitchers than lefties, so good managers will put lefty pitchers when they know that Nixon or Damon will be up to bat. It is really important that you understand the dynamics of the team’s setup. If they are set up wrong, even if they have the strongest players, they will still not be a good pick.

Some baseball teams really stand out when it comes to maximizing their players’ and team’s setup, some just falter in this department. The Rockies had a good run, 14-9 lefties last season at home but only got a poor 6-17 when they were away on the road. This season they are doing 7-2 in home base against left handed pitchers, but only a measly 2-2 when on the road. The Orioles did a sorrowful 7-18 while on the road a few years back when pitted against left handed pitchers and this season they are doing worse at 1-10. It is really essential to go into the statistics of the entire team, other than going through the profile of each member. From there you can find the pieces that you can fit together so that you can choose winner after winner and get very good money from betting, too. Numbers translate to winning picks and more profit.

When you get right down to it, no matter what techniques one might rely on for his investment decisions there is one thing that they all have in common.  In order to be successful an investor has to be on the right side of the longer term trends.

We are all bombarded with daily charts and sometimes weekly, but looking at the long term monthly charts can reveal areas where price on the long term has historically shown to be important turning or continuation points.  Not only do they give you a perspective or where price has been in the past, it gives you an idea of where price is now in relation to where major peaks and bottoms occurred.

A great example of how a long term perspective can influence an investment or trading decision can be seen in the Corn chart below courtesy of Moore Research, Inc.

A quick look at the chart and we can see how the $4.00 area has been a major price turning point in the past.   Over the past 38 years, $4 dollars (with the exception of 1996) had been uncharted territory.

Corn CBOT

I’ve used this example because it is relevant right now as Corn futures are knocking on the $4 dollar area.  But now that we’ve seen a long term chart, we can see how significant this price area is to this commodity.   On the inverse, we can see historically that buying Corn at/near/or under $2 dollars a bushel over the past 38 years was buying when price was cheap.  Of course it’s not that easy buying 5000 bushels of corn and storing in your basement and trying to re-sell it a few years later.  However, I am using corn for illustrative purposes and we will look at the Crude, Natural Gas, and Gold markets after this exercise.  Having viewed the chart we can now see how the $4 dollar area is kind of like a pivot point going forward here.  Either it’s still a long term price point where corn will turn down or it has the potential to become a floor for long term price.  Armed with this knowledge one can at least formulate a decision making process for corn and better understand if the price fundamentals are about to change on a longer term basis.

Now we can also surmise the following after having viewed the monthly corn chart.  First, either corn is at or near a potential major peak in price or the long term fundamentals of supply/demand are changing.  And there’s a third possibility.  The US Dollar’s weakness is affecting the price of corn.  To elaborate on the third possibility, it seems that the commodity and financial markets has become a one way street.  For the most part, the stock and commodity markets all rally together when the dollar is dropping in value and the opposite when the dollar is rallying. During the latter part of this decade adding currency fluctuation into the analysis is a must.

This history of paper money is littered with great dynasties that have come and gone.  Even in the days of Rome, the beginning of the end could be seen in the amount of gold purity that was contained in their coins.  Near the end I read somewhere that the gold coins had less than 10% gold and substitutes like bronze was used in the making of the coins.

Over the 20th century little by little the same thing has happened to the currency of the United States.  From the confiscation of gold during the great depression, the Bretton Woods agreement to finally Richard Nixon’s removal of the US Dollar from gold, the US Dollar has become nothing more than a piece of paper backed by nothing. On that fateful night Nixon was heard afterward to say “Now……….we are all Keynesians.” About 36 months later the stock market bottomed at 577 and over the next 40 years, would rise to a high of 14,000, gold would move from 35 to 1000 and crude oil from $5 to $150. (At their respective peaks).  And that brings us to the world we live in today.

The status of the American dollar from which the term “it’s as good as gold” comes from, has become a currency that has lost the credibility of the global world and while it is not being reported, a mass exodus is underway by the nations who are holding most of it.  Its rejection will bring profound changes to the wealth and power that the United States once commanded.  The pillars are being removed slowly and while no one has noticed that much, it will be obvious to all when the building finally comes crashing down.

Throughout this global debt crisis, each tool that has been wielded by the Federal Reserve has rendered no results.  At first, we were assured that the situation would be remedied, but we have to ask ourselves, what can the Fed do?  They have fired all of their bullets already.

Today besides other currencies, the world’s basic substitute for dollars is oil and gold.  There is already a move underfoot to no longer price oil in US Dollars, and when that happens, the power of the USA will greatly be usurped.

Since oil and gold play’s such an important part of our financial world and is at the center of headlines, let’s take a look at the long term charts to get a price perspective of where we are at.

First up we have the long term Crude Oil chart.  Recall the importance of the $4 dollar area for corn and we can see that Crude Oil has the same long term PIVOT point with the exception that it’s $40 dollars and not $4.   We can see how IMPORTANT the $40 dollar area is and we can ask the same questions as we did with Corn.

Crude Oil CBOT – NYM

We can see that the 1990 Desert storm spike was right at the 4 dollar area and was a hint of things to come.  Forty dollars has an important element to it as well.  Recall that we had a mini recession in 1991 about a year after oil had hit $40.  Now move over to the year 2000.  Notice we had a peak at $40 there as well.  Shortly after that, we were in a recession.  As a matter of fact, that recession ended not long after the 911 event.  Who in USA can’t forget George Bush telling us to all go out and spend money?

We can see that the collapse from the highs near 150 bottomed just below the 40 dollar area and interestingly we’ve been through the deepest recession in 80 years.  Now once again oil is moving higher but this time from basically the $40 dollar area.  Is $40 the new floor for gold as $20 was during the 80’s and 90’s?  Until proven otherwise, we think yes.   And if $40 is the new $20, is $80 the new $40?  That answer we should have soon as oil is making its second foray into the 80 level with new highs this past week.

The seasonal average for Crude usually peaks in this time frame and it is very possible that Crude could indeed pullback, but it will only do so if the US Dollar bottoms and begins to move up.  November is usually the strongest period for the US Dollar as well so it’s an important test.  In an average year, we probably would peak here and pullback to the 6o dollar area and form a low sometime in the January/February period.

You will notice that there are three channels that have been added to the price chart. Notice this latest consolidation over the past few months in oil has been bouncing off the bottom of that line at around the 65 dollar area.  Then over the past month, we’ve broken out of that range and price has just hurdled $80.

Of particular interest is the second red channel line on the chart.  This line goes all the way back to 1997 and if you look at the price action this line has provided resistance to price in 2005 and 2006.  Now if we look at the price spike of 2007 we can see that once this second red line was exceeded, we rallied to the 100 area and then to confirm the channel lines importance, price pulled back from 100 right back to the top of that trend line at about $85, and then for about three months price oscillated in that same range as oil bounced back to 100, and one more time down to 85 before liftoff to the 150 area.

Therefore, we can conclude that if the oil market is not peaking here and now and it still has legs, then the most likely price event would be for Crude Oil to climb to the 95-100 area and for price to touch that second red channel line on the chart again.

A final observation is that we can see how the lowest two channel lines have provided the highs and lows for crude oil since 1998 with the exception of the 2007 overshoot oil mania and the 2008 meltdown liquidation event.   And since the meltdown low was at the $40 dollar area, we believe that price is now the new floor for oil.  In fact, we think that price action will most likely follow between the two red bottom trend lines between now and February.  If this is the case, we should expect the highs to be in the 95-105 area and the pullbacks to be in the 68-75 area over the next 3 or 4 months.

This brings us to the currency situation affecting the global marketplace.  Up until recently, government debt and printing of money had been done in a somewhat orderly fashion, and for the most part the ravages of inflation were well masked with cheap labor from the developing nations.

But as in the last war (Vietnam) this war was to be no different.   Combined with the fact that USA has given its industrial base to China, the latest war on terror has proved to be a deficit killer.  The final straw of course was when the real estate market collapsed but the cracks and fissures had long been developing.  In fact shortly after the 911 event, when the USA reflated its markets that one final time, the commodity known as gold ended a 20 year bear market and bottomed at the 250 dollar level.

GOld CBOT – CMX

The long term view of Gold shows that as $4 dollars is to corn, and $40 dollars is to gold, the chart above suggests that the $700 dollar area is most probably the PIVOT point for gold.  We can see that although 1980 did have a spike to $875, the chart reveals that 700 (or just slightly above it) was where the price rise was really contained.  The 2006 high was also at 700 and spent almost a year and a half bouncing off that area before it blasted thru to 1000.  Finally, the subsequent 2008 meltdown low was right at the $700 dollar area.  We think the weight of the evidence suggests that $700 is indeed the new pivot.

From this chart we can see that gold’s price has been trading in its second channel from the top and like crude’s drop below its channel to its $40 dollar pivot point, gold’s drop during the same meltdown pierced its channel and dropped all the way to $700, its pivot point.  The subsequent bounce back into its channel for the past 12 months is now reaching the upper boundary of its channel line.  That line is pointing to the 1100 dollar area in the October/November time frame.  Like Crude, Gold is also due for a seasonal pullback at this time of the year.  Therefore we should be cautious when gold reaches the 1100-1150 area should that price level be realized over the next 2-4 weeks.

Now with that said, the question arises as to whether gold could break above that channel line.  Usually channel lines, when broken, are the result of price having tested and bounced off it for a period of time.  In this case, while there have been no price hits on this channel, we see that the highs of 2008 were very close to touching that line.  And the latest bar on the chart is also very close to touching that channel.

Sometimes there are price spikes that develop at these price points.  The 1980 high is one example.  But more to the point, 1983 and 2006 witnessed spikes above the red channel line.   The potential for gold to do the same on this current rally is a strong possibility as well.  The most incredible thing about gold is that it is the only well known commodity to be making NEW HIGHS since the meltdown.

It is an amazing thing that less than 2% of the population own form of gold.  In fact, Doug Casey’s work shows that there is only about 1 ounce of the metal available for each person on earth.

That leads to the next question, how much paper money is there on earth?  At last look in 2008, it was estimated that there would be about $3000 per person on earth should it be divided up equally.  Now there are a lot more complex ways to arrive at what price of gold should be, but even in this simple method it shows that equally speaking, the price of gold should be at least $3000 per ounce.

So what conclusions should we draw from the chart?  First, gold is in a major bull market, it is currently the LEADING market of the world making new historic price highs and appreciating at about a 30% clip per year over this decade.    We can see that a price high in the 1100 (and possibly 1200 on a spike) could coincide with an autumn pullback that usually develops around this time period along with Crude.

The US Dollar as we have mentioned is the wild card that gets thrown into the mix.

USD – US Dollar

The US Dollar’s pivot point seems to be the 80 area.   As you can see, it always provided a support area until interest rates fell to almost zero in order to try and restimulate the US economy over the last few years.   Overall however, we can see that the dollar has a down trending channel that it is following long term.  We can see that while gold and crude are making their way to the next upper trend line, the US Dollar is making its way to the lower trend line.  And this comes at a time when the Dollar enters its usual seasonal rally.

Finally, let’s look at one more chart.  Natural Gas.

Natural Gas – NYM

We list this chart because we have recently made a major low in this energy commodity.  The recent low near $2 dollars was at the low PIVOT point price.  I’ve also highlighted the high PIVOT point on this long term chart, the $10 – $11 dollar area.

During the month of September, Natural Gas made a major low and a spike to the $5 dollar area brings us to the first trend line on the price chart.  We see that beyond this area, the $8 dollar area is the next trend line that price projects.  For those of you watching the Natural Gas market, think of how more confident you might have been in purchasing a Natural Gas investment had you seen where price was on the long term chart.  But if you look closely at the chart, you will see that every time we have ever hit this trend line, price has always BOUNCED off it twice.  In 94-95 there was a double bounce.  The 98-99 low had a double bounce and finally the 01-02 had a double bounce.  If history is any guide, the odds suggest we will get a retest of this area once in 2010 and a long term low will probably be established.  Armed with this knowledge, the next time Natural Gas gets anywhere below the $3 dollar level, buy with both arms.

Now that we’ve looked at the long term charts we can draw some probable conclusions

The Crude Oil market seems to have a new pivot low price of $40 dollars.  It is in a price channel that projects the range to be in the 65-100 dollar area.  The current rally on the monthly charts projects a rally to the 95-100 dollar area.

The Gold market seems to have a long term pivot price of $700 dollars.  It is in a price channel that projects the range to be in the 910-1100 area .  The current rally on the monthly charts projects a rally to the 1100-1150 area.

The Natural Gas market seems to have a long term pivot low price of just above the $2 dollar area.  It is in a price channel that projects the range to be in the 2-5 dollar area.  The current rally on the monthly charts projects a pullback to the pivot line one more time before a long term rally gets underway.

Now that we have the long term price perspectives, we can better focus on our medium and shorter term perspectives.  But those timeframes all have their own support and resistance channel lines and their respective up and down trends within these longer term channels.  If you have an interest in following the trends of these commodities and getting some advice when great set-ups with low risk entries occur, we invite you to visit our website

Last night finished watching a feature documentary film by the same name. Two young fellers, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis decide to return to their ancestral home in central Iowa. There they plant an acre of corn and trace the path that corn makes from seedlings to finished product. If you’ve seen fast food nation, this is even more frightening.

In spring the team of intrepid city boys pair hook up with a local farmer to plant their acre. The stuff that gets planted is genetically modified stock that has been bred to produce a massive yield of totally inedible corn. The resulting ‘corn’ is actually used as a feedstock for industrial quality ethanol, high fructose corn syrup, and cattle feed. If you want edible corn, you’ve got to plant something else entirely. Another wonderful feature of this GMO corn is that it resists a certain type of herbicide that is sprayed on the fields and kills the weeds, wild marijuana and other stuff the farmers don’t want messing with their corn crop.

What happens when the trail of corn leaves the farm is where the real fun begins. Approximately 10% of the crop is used to make ethanol, the common additive to gasoline. 40% goes to make high fructose corn syrup which ends up in virtually all our food and makes us fat as hogs.

The remaining 50% is used in feedlots where cattle are stuffed full of it for 120 days before then are ‘sent to market’ as the saying goes. You may remember, cattle don’t naturally eat corn as food, grass is more to their taste. But cattle don’t fatten up nearly as fast on grass as when they are being stuffed to the hilt with corn, so corn it is. Time to market is everything.

Earl Butz, Secretary of Agriculture in the Nixon administration is interviewed. When he took office, Federal policy was to have farmers withhold land from production, the idea being to stabilize farm prices. The Nixon bunch turned that whole thing upside down by essentially telling farmers to put as much land into production as possible-bigger is better, so the saying goes. But the free market economics of corn production is such that farmers loose money on the corn they grow. So the government (that’s us) pays farmers a subsidy and sinking allowance at the end of the season, so they actually do have some take home pay for their labors.

Butz points out that when he took office, the average American family spent something close to 32% of take home pay on groceries. Now that figure is close to 16%, about half of where things stood in the 70’s. I really question whether we and the farmers that feed us are better for it.

I have been watching the steady erosion of our rights and freedoms by democrats since Obama was sworn in. The people he has installed around him as czars and by his appointments to office have shown their true backgrounds to be pro communist and marxist leaning principals. The President himself has stated his desire for share the wealth objectives. He almost destroyed Joe the plumber for his rejection of the Obama principal and said so. This President does not handle opposition well. Does it remind you of anyone in particulr?

I was in the hospital for a long period at the time of the Nixon hearings. I was able to watch the whole process on TV. Pres Nixon was paranoid about enemies being everywhere and after him. He brought himself down with taping his own office and dirty tricks and subversive actions by the people around him. The press was very active back then with investigative reporters all over the place. He never did get along with them. I see some of the same qualities in this President. He is very thin skinned and reacts badly to criticism.

When President Obama declared war on Fox news because of a few attacks on his people and programs it was not that he fought back but how he did it. Programs like the Glenn Beck show and Hannity and the like are pure opinion and personality talk shows. They have nothing to do with the management and news division of the network. To lump them into one pot because they report facts and do not follow the practices of other networks to soften any bad coverage of Obama. I have yet to hear any real criticism of the president from ABC,CBS,NBC,orCNN, about any of his actions or programs.

The American people are willing to look at the program set forth by the democratic party. But it must be open and understandable and allotted time to examine the bill. Everything so far has been rushed, and hidden, and secreted behind closed doors as if their was a national emergency to have it completed by a date certain. The only reason I can formulate to cover what is happening is, that they do not want us to understand it, and its implications for us all. Corrupt politics is always hidden behind closed doors. What they never realize is: It all comes out eventually.

President Obama tried to keep Fox news personnel from entering a news conference being held, and to their credit, the other news people refused to go in unless Fox was allowed in also. I think it was the fear of it happening to them sooner or later if they did not bow to his wishes. This President feels that any criticism of his people or programs is a direct attack on him and he responds strongly to it and not always in a manner that is acceptable. His vice President, Joe Biden is well known for his viciousness and deliberate attacks on those who anger him.

I cannot defend his cruelty to witnesses before his former committee and in front of cameras with his icy smile, demean them and embarass them, for all to see. Snide remarks are a specialty of his and he has made an art of insulting people. He seems to fit in well with the Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi crowd and many others that have been in office forever. The same people have been involved in the mess we find ourselves in now from Washington. These same people are now proposing new programs to start the same ball rolling again.

The democrats have launched bill after bill to chip away at our freedoms. The so called fairness doctrine is a misnomer. If you do not agree with the President , then you must be made to. This President has the bully pulpit at his disposale any time he wants to use it. He could explain in detail any program or bill being put to congress or senate at any time. The President has threatened liscenses of broadcasters for criticising him and his people.

The President has around him a great many people that are avowed socialists, communists, marxists and terrorists from far in his young past. He himself has claimed their teachings have been all around him since his college days and that he grew up with them. Revolutionaries who blew up buildings and others seeking the overthrow of our governmental system like Franklin Raines the former CEO of Fannie Mae. Anita Dunn is another one who claims Mao Zedong as a favorite person to quote in his philosophy of mass murder and a communist state.

I cannot forsee any hope for the President who thinks he can use Chicago politics in Washington. He is used to dealings with unions and Acorn and especially with SEIU. It is an organization used by it top brass to manipulate, subvert, and its members have no say in how it is run. Millions of dollars of union money donated to politicians to subvert and corrupt people all over Washington. They send out goon squads to beat up resisters. Tea party meetings and town hall meetings are disrupted and broken up and the friendly news organizations try and make it sound as the meetings are disruptive. You will never see the truth on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, as they are too busy defending Obama and his union thugs.

I think the American people are finally awake to what is really going on. Did you see how the networks covered to peoples march on Washington? They made it sound as if a few hundred people showed up. In truth their were hundreds of thousands of people that showed up. They took pictures of small groups of people to try and downplay the fact that the Washington mall was covered with 10s of thousands, so thick you could not see any ground anywhere. Thats how they operate. Supress and softball anything that doesn’t fit into the democratic propaganda. Downplay anything republicans do, or how the people support them, and hide the truth from the public. Make everything the democrats do sound great and cover up all the rest. I wonder how they are going to explain the coming losses in the next election when the people throw them all out.

Health care is a farce and cannot be passed if the people make politicians listen and believe they will pay a big price. And believe me they will. The same holds true for that global warming farce and the EPA. The EPA must be disbanded or cut down to size where they have responsibilities for only federal lands and nothing else. They cannot dictate to America what they dream up along with the crazy left wing of the green movement. They would have us live in the woods with no electricity or cars or conveniences whatever. Do not disturb nature even if we all die out to do it. I don’t know where these environmentalists get the ideas they come up with. I only pray we can last until Nov 2010 to get most of the extremists out. May God Bless us all and keep America safe.
